About the Janssen Prize for Creativity in Organic Chemistry

Dash Dhanak, Global Head of Discovery Sciences, Janssen R&D: “Organic synthesis is a fundamental part of drug discovery within the industry. This is especially true at Janssen, where we recognized many years ago, through our founder Dr. Paul Janssen, the importance of synthetic chemistry to enable the synthesis of molecules that will change human health.”

Professor Ben L. Feringa, University of Groningen, President of the Janssen Prize Jury: “This prize is a great honor for those young heroes in the field who are making a real impact on how we do synthesis in our laboratories and in the industry. It is an excellent stimulus for younger scientists to enter this field and be recognized for their pioneering contributions.”

16th Belgian Organic Synthesis Symposium: July 2018 – Brussels

Paul Knochel, Symposium Chairman, Ludwig Maximillians University: The BOSS meeting is unique opportunity to learn about the most important advances in organic chemistry, presented by chemists who have made exciting contributions in all different fields of organic chemistry.”

Peter Tummino, Head, Lead Discovery, Discovery Sciences, Janssen R&D: “What really makes the difference for novel medicines to move into the clinic is having people with deep expertise in synthetic chemistry but who also have broad scientific backgrounds. This point was addressed by keynote speaker and 2018 prize winner, Professor Dean Toste. We can really bring value in drug discovery by simply moving beyond synthetic chemistry and applying it in a broad manner – and this meeting helps to move these ideas forward.”
